This needed to be adult sized

During my last stay at Ed's he showed me this amazing costume his mum made him when he was younger and some photos of his wearing other, shop bought, costumes. The photos I have taken do the costume very little justice.  The quality of the stitches, the fabric and the overall look of the costume was very high.  It's also still in excellent condition despite getting a lot of use during Ed's childhood. I was planning on making him a Star Trek costume for Christmas this year so I am really happy to be carrying on what looks like an old tradition.

Apparently sometimes his mum still calls him her White Power Ranger on the phone...though I'm sure he'd rather I didn't tell you that...

Doesn't he look super cute as a Thunderbird?  Or as Captain Scarlet?

P.S And for those of you wondering...yes I did try it on and no it didn't fit.  Was fun though!

A present for the best friend

I have this friend. She's one of the funniest, most talented, people I know and I screwed up once by sending her a book in the post.  I figured she'd see the funny side of receiving the Twilight Graphic novel through her letterbox.  But she didn't - she got pretty mad.  Haha.  So I think a big part of me is desperate to make up for that mistake by constantly being on the look out for pretty things.  When I saw this tutorial I knew I just had to have a go.

I made the four of them a little smaller than Elsie did because I wanted them to be coaster for cups.  Ed and I made this cute wrapping paper by drawing oak leaves and acorns on some pink sugar paper.  I think the gift was pretty well received   Wai Wai doesn't really need/use coasters so she strung them together and hung them on her wall which looked lovely.  I might play with the idea of using them as a wall hanging for future projects.

Project Friday...oops.

I am terribly unorganised.  Somehow Thursday night has become the night I go to the pub and knit and chat and eat and generally have a great time.  Which means I sometimes, maybe, forget to update you with the scarf.  He's coming along handsomely.  Now I can knit with him round my neck which is the best feeling.

And here is a sneak of future projects: Christmas presents.

I am in two minds whether I should put these on here in case people receiving the gifts see them.  What do you think?

Handmade silhouettes

Because so much of our relationship is long distance I thought it would be nice to have a little part of Ed and I, that I could take with me wherever I go.  So, being bossy, I made him pose for a silhouette book.

We took two bright colours, pink and blue, and took it in turns to draw and cut out the silhouette of the other.  Ed then made a small book out of thick white paper, stuck down our silhouettes and wrote our names underneath (just incase I forget who's who).

I really love it and it was so quick and easy to make.  If you wanted to make one as a gift then you could make them a little neater and stick them onto thicker card.

Not quite project Thursday...

In my defence it is because I was having a beautifully crafty evening with my lovely Mum.  But you're all here for an update, right?

Here you can see Gigantor, the name I have given to this ludicrously wide scarf, in all his glory. He is nearly done and I am so excited to start wearing him.

I was joined by Kate today (the knitter) as well as Kaidy, Annie and Kaidy's sister who's name I forgot (she was lovely though). We went to the Pig & Fiddle in Bath and had burgers, coke, chats and a really, really great time. It is such a lovely pub - cannot wait to go next week.

Here I am with Gigantor.  As you can see we needed a sofa to ourselves.

I cannot wait to share what Mum and I were doing tonight!!!

A present for the boyfriend

The first time I visited my boyfriend Ed in Brighton I was playing with his pens and created a tiny (and terribly cute) dinosaur named Steve.  Dinosaur Steve was loosely based on a tyrannosaurus-rex so had teeny tiny arms.  If I can convince Ed to take a picture I might even be able to share the original Steve.
It's mine and Ed's anniversary tomorrow and because I cannot be there on the day I went to stay for a few days this week.  As part of his gift I made him a felt Dinosaur Steve to warm his lonely nights.  Here's how I did it.

I gathered the bits and bobs I needed - Keira Knightley's face is a must for all crafty projects - I included pins, needles, red felt, blue felt, scissors and a marker pen. I forgot to include thread and stuffing.  Whoopsie.

Then I drew a really simple outline of a T-rex, cut it out, pinned it the red felt (that I had folded in half) and cut him out. I made sure I left enough room around the picture for the stitching.  Easy huh?

Cats love crafting too!

Then I neatly sewed around the edges with a teeny tiny running stitch (in out in out) until I had a little hole I hadn't stitched...and then...baddahhhh.  I turned him right-side-out ready for stuffing.

I stuffed my little Steve with left over wool I had lying around then added his little blue tummy, eyes and teeth.  He just about fit in the palm of my hand.

This little cat certainly seemed to like him and I promise you Dinosaur Steve was very well received at the other end.
